Hi All,
I haven't been on in awhile...sorry,  but 4 kids will keep you  busy!!   I am one of those that has had bell's twice, and thank God, recovered!  I was wondering if anyone has had dental work done since recovering from bell's palsy?  I have had regular cleanings but no actual work.  I am scheduled next week for a filling fix, but am scared to death.  It has been 1.5 years since my last episode of bell's.  I would love to hear anyone's experiences with dental work after recovering from bells palsy.   Thank-you!!

I've had BP for about 15 years now and have the same problem - smile and the eye closes, try and wink and the mouth raises.  I feel sure I have synkinthesis.  I am willing to try anything, even after all this time.  I have researched facial retraining and something called Mime but have had no luck in finding anyone in my area.  I thought perhaps an accupuncturist might be easier to find.  Does anyone know of a reputable one in Surrey in the Gatwick area.  Many thanks and good luck to all of you in making a complete, speedy recovery.
Christine

Hi everybody and wishing good and continued healing and progress to you all!!

I have just hit the beginning of my 6th month with the dreaded BP and things have progressed.  I have continued movement and can smile (although not quite back to my giant grin, just yet.  Any ability to smile was a huge milestone and I am grateful.  But will remain optimistic that t it will get bigger and brighter as time continues.    Having faith and believing are key issues here!

I still have my days of discouragement  but I have learned the value of patience.  I have also learned that our face does not define us for who or what we are.  My 13 year old daughter has seen me as her wonderful "fierce mama" with the upbeat spirit. I have taught her the value of what is "inside" is what really matters and makes us who we really are.  It is a strange gift but one that I know she will always carry because of my battle with BP.  She will be a stronger and more confidant person.

My biggest concern now is that my eye still has made little recovery.  My blink is slow and only about 3/4 shutting.  I am faithful with my eye drops .  I had always worn contact lenses for more sight issues than just vanity and am worried that I will never be able to wear them again.  My opthamalogist said I could attempt them for short periods (Out to dinner) but the BP eye gets too irritated and "gunky" if only for a couple of hours.  Does blinking ever fully recover enough to wear lenses again??  It would mean alot to me  Any advise ??

I still pray for further recovery and progress over all.  And I thank all of you on this website across the sea for all your support and concern.

And for all those who are new here,  Hang on and hold tight .  Better days are ahead!!

Bellsy, the virus that causes shingles is known to cause Ramsay Hunt syndrome (almost identical to BP but usually longer lasting and more painful) ...so if you have been in contact with someone who has shingles and present BP type symptoms its very likely that you actually would have RHS.
