Bells Palsy is the diagnosis when all other possible reasons for paralysis have been discounted and no known cause can be found.
Facial palsy is the diagnosis when a reason for the paralysis has been identified and diagnosed.
Some possible causes for Facial Palsy are:
- Bacterial infections such as Lyme disease
- Pressure on the facial nerve possibly due to a cyst or tumour
- Middle ear infection
- Facial trauma
- Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome
- M?bius syndrome
- Guillain-Barr? Syndrome
Do bear in mind that in the majority of cases we do simply have Idiopathic Bells Palsy.
